The National Piping Centre was officially opened by HRH The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay on 28 January, 1998, and earlier this year as part of our anniversary celebrations we announced a composing competition for a four-part 6/8 march for the great Highland bagpipe. By the closing date of 1 July we had received a grand total of 71 entries from all over the world.
People all over Glasgow have woken to a new sight in the skies above the city. For this morning only, a 156 feet tall hot air balloon shaped like a Pipe Major has been flying above the city centre as part of the build up to Piping Live! and the World Pipe Band Championships which both take place next month.

Please note that the “Drumming for Drinks” / Lord of the Todd Bass and Tenor drumming competition which is listed in the Piping Live! programme as being held in the Lord Todd Bar, University of Strathclyde on Tuesday 12th of August at 1 pm should now read Monday 11th August at 1pm.
