World Champion Drummer Steven McWhirter is now available for tuition every Friday at the National Piping Centre. Steven is one of the worlds leading snare drummers having won the World Pipe Band Championships with Simon Fraser University Pipe Band this year and also winning the World Solo Drumming title in 2006. The seventeenth annual amateur piobaireachd competition for the Archie Kenneth Quaich will take place on Saturday, 7th March 2009, in the rooms of The Royal Scottish Pipers’ Society, Rose Street Lane South, Edinburgh.
The 26th Nicol-Brown Amateur Invitational Piping Competition was held on October 11, 2008 in Albany, New York, with 9 competitors chosen from across North America based on competitive results. The Edinburgh Knockout will kick off on Sunday 16th November in the Scots Guards Club Haymarket. The first two pipers going head to head for the audience votes are Margaret Dunn and Kevin MacNulty. The dates for the other competitors are not yet confirmed but the draw is as follows;

The Ten international competitors who will battle it out for the esteemed title of Glenfiddich Piping Champion have been revealed alongside the eight competitors chosen to compete for the title of Glenfiddich Fiddle Champion (full list below).
