It’s Drum Time!

National Youth Pipe Band bring Drumming Stars to Glasgow.

Two of the Worlds top solo drummers will be in town on Saturday 28th Feb and Sunday 1st March for a two-day exclusive workshop with the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland’s Drum Corp. Jeff Queen, the American DCI snare drumming 5 times world champion and Pete Lockett, an Indian/African percussionist who featured on the soundtrack for Quantum of Solace, the latest James Bond Film will be in Glasgow to teach and play with the top young pipe band drummers in the country.

Jeff will fly in especially for this weekend from Indianapolis, USA and Pete Lockett is performing with the NYPBoS en route to Delhi where he has just released a new album “Kingdom of Rythym” with a host of other Indian Drumming stars featuring on the production.

Director of the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland, Alisdair McLaren said “We are very excited to have the two amazing top drummers flying in. We hope that we will learn a lot to use in our own future productions, and that they might learn a thing or two from the best young pipe band snare drummers in Scotland.”

NYPB DrummersThe young performers themselves are looking forward to this opportunity to play with some of the worlds best and to expand their drumming knowledge. The National Youth Pipe Band is a performance band, rather than competing band, with its members drawn from all the top pipe bands, so experiences like this are what set the NYPBoS apart and make it unique.

To hear the results from this weekends workshop they have an upcoming performance at the Empire Theatre, Eden Court, Inverness on Saturday 4th April where you can hear the Drum Corps, and the rest of the band, performing for the 1st time this year. The line up will include performances by both the Senior National Youth Pipe Band and the new Development Band. Alongside this there will be a solo recital from Roddy MacLeod MBE, the Principal of the National Piping Centre and Breabach, winners of the Danny Kyle award at Celtic Connections in 2005. Tickets are £12/£8 and are available from the Eden Court Box Office.
