New York Scholarship

The winner of this years ‘Pipe Major Kevin Ray Blandford’ Scholarship which was provided by the Clan Currie Society is Justin Steele.

Justin is 13 years old from Ontario, Canada. He was inspired to play the Bagpipes while on a trip to Scotland to trace his ancestry. Justin currently plays for two Bands, The Branch 28  Royal Canadian Legion Pipe Band , Chatham ,Ontario and also with a competition Pipe Band  London Fire Fighters Gr.3 London , Ontario.
Justin has just won two Ontario Champion Supreme Awards for Ontario 2008 for the Grade 5 March and Novice Piobaireachd. 

Congratulations to Justin and we hope he enjoys his time at the National Piping Centre School, New York.  

Festival Interceltique Lorient – 29th MacCrimmon Trophy – Qualifying Event

 The MacCrimmon Trophy contest is held in Lorient Brittany during the Annual Festival now in its 39th Year.

The format is that 3 pipers are selected or invited from each of three Celtic regions – Brittany, Scotland and Ireland.

The pipers have each to play 5-6 minutes of each of Scottish, Irish and Breton music. The prize money totals 4400 Euros.

The Scottish Qualifying Event will take place on Saturday 21st February at 7.00pm at the College of Piping Otago Street Glasgow. Continue reading

Recital at Stewart’s Melville College, Edinburgh

There will be a recital in the Performing Arts Centre, Stewart’s Melville College, Queensferry Road, Edinburgh on Saturday 7th March 2009 at 7.30pm. 

Roddy MacLeod MBE, Gordon Walker and Gary West (Scottish Smallpipes) will all perform.
