Organised by the Interceltic Lorient Festival, the competition will take place on Sunday, August, 2nd 2009, at the Palais des Congres.
It is an extraordinary musical moment which gathers a selection of the best bagpipe players in a solo competition. These players come from all over the world, and have to play a repertoire from Ireland, Scotland and Brittany. This competition is endowed with a 4400€ prices (£3550).
Competitors will have to play a medley in each repertoire, Irish, Scottish and Breton, for a duration of 6 minutes maximum.
A traditional MSR (March, Strathspey and reel) used to be played and will be replaced by a medley in Scottish music just like for the Irish and Breton parts. Every piper is free to adapt the large repertoire of Scottish music, eg. Airs, ballads, marches, jigs, strathspeys, reels, etc…
We remind you that a Piobaireachd competition will take place on Monday August 3rd (3 pieces to present) as well as a Kitchen Music competition on Tuesday, August, 4th. A pipe-band competition will take place the next week-end.
