We are pleased to announce that tickets for this year’s evening concerts are on sale now through SEC Xtra and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Tickets are £15 adults and £10 concession for each night and there are some fantastic ticket offers availble for groups and season tickets.
Our evening events have a fantastic lineup this year with a great eclectic mix of piping styles.
Monday night is our traditional Opening Night Concert. This year it will be in the Old Fruitmarket, in Glasgow ’s Merchant City and will feature The Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Bodega in a great concert to kick off the festival.
Tuesday is the return of the International Quartet Competition with top pipe bands from across the globe competing to be crowned champions. Last year’s winners ScottishPower will compete against Simon Fraser University, Field Marshall Montgomery, Manawatu Scottish, St Laurence O’Toole and one other band for the title of Quartet Champions. This is an allstar pipe band event! The Strathclyde Suite in Glasgow Royal Concert Hall will host this event yet again.
Wednesday night is a special Homecoming Scotland event called “Battlelines to Barlines-The Musical Pulse of Scottish History”. It will look at events from a ‘Clan’ perspective and use Songs, Airs and Pibrochs that are perceived to be contemporary with the events themselves. There will be a Gaelic theme running through the evening with composer and performer Allan MacDonald, Margaret Stewart and other instrumentalists involved. This will take place in the haunting St Andrews in the Square.
Thursday is dedicated to two instruments – “Pipes and Strings”. There will be performances by the Glenfiddich Solo Piping Champion, Gordon Walker and the Glenfiddich Solo Fiddle Champion, Raemond Jappy. Iain Morrison will perform with friends and Gary West and Wendy Stewart will be performing tracks from their new album “Hinterlands”.
The International Piping Concert takes place on Friday 14th, the eve of the Worlds. The Strathclyde suite will host Fred Morrison and Friends, Paddy Keenan and German/Scottish group Homebound. There might even be a chance Fred and Paddy will get together on stage – which would be great for all traditional music fans!
The After Worlds Shindig will be the only place to be after the Green this year with the Peatbog Faeries, The Finlay MacDonald Band, Ross Ainslie and Jarlath Henderson with Ali Hutton and a ceilidh to end the night in the wee hours! The Old Fruitmarket will host the event now in its 3rd year!
