Following a popular revival in 2008, the College of Piping will again play host to the Echoes of Oban concert, a recital that celebrates the winning performances of this year’s Argyllshire Gathering.
The concert will take place on Saturday, 28 November, 7pm at the College of Piping in Glasgow’s West End.
Prize winners that have confirmed their attendance are: Alastair Dunn, Gold Medallist; Cameron Drummond, Silver Medallist; Craig Sutherland, MacGregor Memorial; James Murray, Former Winners March, Strathspey & Reel; and Glenn Brown, ‘A’ March.
This event was held annually in the 1950s and 1960s, when winners from the annual Argyllshire Gathering were invited to play their winning tunes at a concert in Glasgow. This gave piping enthusiasts who had been unable to attend the Gathering a chance to hear the best performances. The event was revived last year and proved to be a great success with first class piping in a pleasant social atmosphere.
The concert will be held in the College of Piping’s new purpose-built lecture hall. Tickets are priced at £5 each and will be available at the door. A cash bar will be available on the evening.
