Islay Inn Piping Challenge – Round 2 Sunday 19th 8pm!

The Islay Inn Piping Challenge is back for round two, this Sunday 19th December from 8pm.Competitors this week are Alisdair McLaren, Chris Armstrong, John Mulhearn and Margaret Dunn.The competition is judged by an audience vote – Glenn Brown and Alasdair Henderson went through from Round 1 last Sunday 12th. The Final is scheduled for 8pm on Saturday 15th January 2011 – the evening of the Annual Piping Concert at Celtic Connections – so why not make it a day of piping!

Islay Inn Piping Challenge – Starts This Sunday 12th 8pm!

The Islay Inn on Argyle Street is hosting “The Islay Inn Piping Challenge”. This is two rounds of 4 pipers, where the top two from each heat go through to a final, which will be held in January. Round 1 will be held this Sunday 12th December from 8pm, with Round 2 next Sunday 19th December from 8pm. Winter School, Bruggen 6th – 13th February 2011

The National Piping Centre, Scotland is proud to be sending our World Class instructors to join the Piper’s Corner Bruggen Winter School between 6th -13th February 2011, in association with Wallace Bagpipes. Students will receive several hours of instruction per day with daily workshops and recitals. The new SQA approved piping exams will be offered. The National Piping Centre instructors will be John Mulhearn, Glenn Brown and Callum Beaumont as well as three students from the BA Scottish Music (piping) degree course. MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Award Winners Announced

The winners of the prestigious MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards were announced at a ceremony in Perth Concert Hall last night (Saturday 4 December). A record 192,000 votes were cast by members of the public for the eighth annual awards which celebrate musicians, community groups and events across all forms of traditional music in Scotland. Among the winners in the 16 categories are Julie Fowlis and the Red Hot Chilli Pipers who replicated their success of 2007 by collecting the award for Best Album of the Year and Best Live Act of the Year respectively.
