NYPBoS at Alexander McQueen
To coincide with London Fashion Week, a memorial service was held at St. Paul’s Cathedral on 20 September to celebrate the life of the fashion world’s enfant terrible Alexander McQueen, who died in February. To end the service, the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland was invited to perform on the West steps of the Cathedral as invited guests left the service.

Neil Munro Society – Composing Competition
The Scottish author and journalist Neil Munro (1863-1930), a native of Inveraray, wrote a number of historical novels about the Highlands such as John Splendid, The New Road and Doom Castle, as well as humorous stories about the sailor Para Handy, and a Glasgow character Erchie. The Society which bears his name was set up in 1996, and as part of its celebration of his life and work has decided to sponsor a composing competition, which will be administered through the Centre.

Piping Live! Scoops Best Large Event at Scottish Event Awards
Piping Live! Glasgow International Piping Festival 2009 has claimed the title of Best Large Event at this year’s Scottish Event Awards. The award recognises the growth and significance of the festival in 2009, which saw 8,000 pipers and 30,000 fans descend upon Glasgow for the traditional music calendar’s biggest week of piping.
