The school starts on Monday 30th April with an introduction from the teachers which will include the giving out of the music books and timetables with a discussion of how the school runs. It will also include a short assessment of your ability in order to put you in a group for the week. The tuition will then be from 9-5ish each day apart from Friday when it will finish with a student concert and prize giving no later than
3pm.
The daily program will cover all aspects of performance including practice routines, technique, musical expression, tuning and ensemble playing. Students will be taught in a small group of similar ability for 3-4 hours per day, with the remaining time used for productive practice and workshops.
In addition to the workshops there will be instructor recitals throughout the week as well as the opportunity for piping students to sit Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board examinations.
The instructors for the 2012 Swiss school will be Chris Armstrong, Pipe Major of the Grade 1 Scottish Power Pipe Band and extremely successful solo piper having won the Gold Medal and several former winner competitions; Finlay MacDonald, Head of Piping Studies for The National Piping Centre and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama) and part of many folk bands including the Finlay MacDonald Band); John Mulhearn an up and coming contemporary recording artist and thriving solo piper.
