John Leamy of Co. Claire was the third recipient of the Irish Silver Medal last Saturday in Limerick. Competitors have to submit 4 set tunes from this years Silver Medal list. The judge was Andrew Wright.

Willie McCallum was this years overall winner of the Donald MacLeod Memorial Competition. He was placed first in the MSR, 3rd in the piobaireachd event and 4th in the Hornpipe & Jig. The competition was held in the Seaforth Hotel, Stornoway last Friday.

The ninth Duncan Johnstone Memorial Piping competition was held at the National Piping Centre on 22 March 2008. The event which is run in partnership between the National Piping Centre and the Competing Pipers Association attracted a record entry of 57 competitors. Several of the adjudicators commented on the exceptionally high standard of playing. For full results see below.
