Background

George Lumsden hails from Kirckcaldy and was taught piping initially at Dollar Academy by Pipe Major Bert Garnock. On leaving school, he joined the Black Watch, and served as a piper in that regiment for six years. He subsequently joined the Edinburgh City Police, and played with the Police Band (later Lothian and Borders Police Pipe Band) for over 30 years, serving as Pipe Major for his last four years with the band.
