Wedding Trends for 2018

After a brief hiatus over the festive season, our wedding blog is back and we’re looking forward to the year ahead! While many couples want to stick to tradition when planning their wedding, each New Year brings a whole new host of trends that can help set your day apart. Here’s our look at the wedding trends that will make a splash in 2018…

Colours

When Pantone reveal their colour of the year, you’ll generally find that it’s a good indicator of trends to follow! Their top colour for 2018 is Ultra Violet, which we expect to see as a highlight colour in wedding stationery, especially when paired with gold, and in floral displays. If you’d like to get on board with the purple trend, adding lavender to your bouquet not only gives a gorgeous pop of colour, it smells amazing. You could also add thistles, if you’d like to add a Scottish twist.

Flowers

While purple is the undoubted colour of the year, the way in which flowers are being displayed is also new for 2018. Rather than having a traditional centre piece, more brides are opting for hanging flowers or greenery instead. This can create more space on the tables – perfect should you wish to adopt another trend for 2018, and serve big sharing plates, rather than a traditional set menu.

Dessert Tables

We love a dessert table at The National Piping Centre, with many couples marrying here opting to forgo the usual last course and offer their guests a selection of sweet treats! Providing a variety of desserts allows you to get creative with individual options and removes the pressure of trying to pick one pudding for everyone. Just make sure that you’re first in the queue…

Smaller Weddings

Experts are predicting that weddings will be smaller in the years to come, with couples choosing not to invite relatives or friends they haven’t seen in years and brides increasingly opting to only have their very closest friends as bridesmaids. This is excellent news if you’re working on a budget – not only will you be frugal, you’ll be fashionable too!
