Craig Muirhead was born in Stirling in February 1990. He is a bagpiper and pianist from Bannockburn and has recently graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with a first class honours degree in traditional music.
Initially taught the bagpipes by Stuart Cassels, Craig has also received tuition from various prize winning bagpipers including Major Gavin Stoddart and Chris Armstrong. He is now studying with Willie McCallum.
Craig is a member of the grade one Scottish Power Pipe Band and is thrilled to be the Pipe Major of the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland.
In a short space of time, Craig has risen through the ranks of the competitive solo piping scene having gained some notable prizes. He has appeared in many festivals, toured with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and in 2010 was chosen as one of two pipers to perform in Dehli at the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony in front of a worldwide audience of one billion.
He currently is a part of the teaching staff for the National Piping Centre’s Study Abroad program instructing students in St Andrews and Edinburgh.
