Barbados Celtic Festival 2018 - Call for Pipers
The National Piping Centre and Piping Live! are delighted to be partnering with the Barbados Celtic Festival 2018 to help find a fantastic lot of pipers to attend and perform as part of their events. For the first time in 2017 individual pipers and drummers from around the world created a Massed Pipe Band. Along with the Barbados Defence Band, a marching brass band, and the Royal Barbados Police Band – professional musicians, and the Army Cadets, this created an amazing Parade through the Capital Bridgetown on the Saturday morning of the festival.
And in 2018 they want it to be bigger and better!
The event takes place from 24th - 27th May 2018, and flight and accommodation packages start from as little as £700.
Barbados Celtic Festival takes place on an island which enjoys 365 days of sunshine every year and when it rains the local Bajans call it “liquid sunshine”. The Celtic festival enjoys performances from top level international folk musicians which has included Eddi Reader, John McCusker, Heidi Talbot Alan Kelly and the Peatbog Faeries. Its a very colourful and enjoyable event – with a local crowd including holidaymakers, and press and television cameras – both from the local stations and from Scottish Television who filmed the whole festival.
Last year Scottish television made two programmes from the festival, one about the music, interviewing Smokey Burke a local musician who explained how the Scottish military drum beat was a direct influence on the local reggae beat. The other programme Peoples History, explored the historical links between Scotland and Barbados.
