NYPBoS donates concert profits to Philippines relief fund

The National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland (NYPBoS) – one of the world’s top youth pipe bands – has announced that it will donate the profits from its St Andrews Day concert at the Clyde Auditorium to the Philippines Disaster Relief Fund.

The decision was made as the devastation wrecked by Haiyan resonated in particular with the band’s director Alisdair McLaren whose family live in the Philippines and were directly affected by the Super Typhoon.

Says Alisdair McLaren: “Like the rest of the world I was horrified by the scale of the disaster but I was also worried for my relatives who live there and my mum who was visiting when the Typhoon hit. Thankfully no one in my family was badly hurt but their homes are damaged and they’ve lost so much – which still makes them luckier than so many other families.”

“I am very grateful that the National Piping Centre and National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland have offered to do this so hopefully we can get as many people along as possible to support this great cause.”

The NYPBoS is a non-competing, cutting edge performance pipe band for 10-25 year olds in Scotland who have represented the country all over the world. Launched in 2002 by The National Piping Centre, the National Youth Pipe Band is the first and only organisation of its kind to bring together Scotland’s most talented young musicians at a national level from across Scotland’s 32 councils, and from an array of different competing pipe bands and musical backgrounds.

This year’s St Andrew’s Day concert will showcase both Senior and Development Bands performing a mix of well-known traditional and exciting contemporary music with a spin.
