Blair Brown

Blair began drumming in 1992 at the age of 8 when he began taking lessons with Doug Stronach. He joined the Milton Optimist Juvenile Pipe Band with whom he won two World Championships in 1994 and 1997. In 2000 he joined the 78th Fraser Highlanders under the leadership of Michael Hunter. During this time he also returned to the Milton Optimists Pipe Band (now renamed the MacDonald Caledonia Pipe Band) as lead drummer. From there, in the season of 2002, he realized a boyhood dream of joining the House of Edgar - Shotts and Dykehead drum corps lead by Jim Kilpatrick. He has enjoyed much success with Shotts winning the World Drum Corps Championships in 2002, 2003 and 2005 as well as winning the overall band titles in 2003 and 2005. In early 2008 Blair joined Peel Regional Police where his brothers, Glenn and Graham, became the new Pipe Major and Leading Drummer. He is extremely to help take on this new venture.

In the solo realm, Blair has won virtually every prize available in Ontario. Blair has made the final at the World Solo Drumming Championships on numerous occasions. Placing in the top 6 twice, 4th equal being his highest placing in 2004. In 2003 Blair became an adjudicator with the PPBSO receiving his A level certification in band and solo drumming. Blair is currently the Head of Drumming at the world renown St. Thomas’ Episcopal School.

Michael began playing the drums in 1994 and soon after received instruction from Liza and David McAdam, and Norman “Haggis” McLeod. He joined the Prince Charles Pipe Band of San Francisco in 1996. In 2000, He won the World Pipe Band Championships in grade 2 with the Prince Charles band and obtained the best bass section prize as well. After taking the 2005 season off from pipe bands, he joined the RMM II pipe band of Vancouver and went on to win the 2006 World Pipe Band Championships in grade 2. In 2007 he joined the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band and in 2008 won the World Pipe Band Championships in grade 1 as well as the best drum corp prize. In the fall of 2008 the SFU bass section was awarded the Hosbilt Cup by the Pipes/Drums readers choice on-line pole. On the solo circuit Mike has been the WUSPBA solo champion on many occasions and he has also won the gold medal tenor event at Winterstorm in Kansas City on two occasions, and is now an instructor and an adjudicator at the event.
