“Our aim is to increase students pleasure and involvement in the art of piping, and to raise the overall standards of certified skill and musicianship.”
The Piping Centre offers tuition at all levels within its purpose built school. Day and evening classes are offered on both a group and individual basis, all under the guidance of our Principal. Our aim is to increase the pleasure and involvement in the art of piping, and to raise the overall standards of certified skill and musicianship.
The Centre also holds seasonal piping schools, as well as day or evening classes, all of which cater not only for the Highland pipe but also the Scottish Small pipe, and Uillean pipes. Please click on the button below for information on dates, prices and features of the courses offered.
An individual Lesson will be £19 or £16(u 16), a book of 10 lessons will be £180/£150,an Intensive course will be now priced at £260/£230 and a non-residential seasonal school will now cost £205/£175.
Another initiative is the Piping Instructor’s Seminar. The aim of the seminar is to provide Teachers of Piping with a forum which allows tutors and aspiring tutors to update their knowledge of teaching methods, new technology and other relevant areas, as well as offering an opportunity to gain a Piping & Drumming Qualification Board.
For those who wish broader studies, instruction will include a historical and cultural perspective through access to the Centre’s Museum, video presentations and archive material.
The Centre is already working closely with the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama to deliver their degree in Scottish Music, and links are being established with other academic institutions in order to strengthen the place of piping within the mainstream of Scottish Musical Education.
With this objective in mind The National Piping Centre has recently launched a National Youth Pipe Band. This project, supported by the Scottish Arts Council, offers young pipers throughout Scotland the opportunity to attend 3 day intensive courses with their instructors to investigate wider aspects of piping.
Scholarship programmes are extensive and widely available and help to defray the costs associated with travel, tuition, and accommodation. Details of these programmes are available for those who may be interested in financial assistance to help in their piping education, or for those people and organisations which may be interested in donating funds to the various scholarship funds.
