How to make your wedding greener
With COP27 now on in Egypt and all the news surrounding it, we have all been thinking about how we can be more environmentally friendly and sustainable in our everyday lives. When it comes to your wedding you can also do things to make your wedding a bit greener too…
- Ask for sustainable and eco-friendly gifts and donations
Ask your guests if they are bringing a gift to make sure that it is something you definitely will use, can be easily recyclable in terms of packaging and if you don’t want gifts at all, why not set up a JustGiving/Crowdfunder page and ask them to donate money for you to give to a charity that fights against climate change and other environmental causes.
2. Choose recyclable wedding invitations
Use recycled paper to have your wedding invitations printed on or go digital and use companies such as GreenEnvelope to create e-invites that you can design, personally send and track to see who has not RSVP’d yet!
3. Hire your wedding dress
Thousands of pounds and materials go into making one wedding dress, and its usually only worn once! So why not hire your dress to be more sustainable and save yourself a bit of money whilst also saving the planet.
4. Choose an organic wedding cake and FREEZE it
You heard us! Whilst buying local for you wedding cake and ensuring organic ingredients are used, you may be concerned with what to do with left over cake after the big day. Instead of letting it go to waste and throwing it out you can freeze it. Simply put it in the freezer uncovered for a while then wrap in plastic and then foil and make sure to thaw before eating!
5. Look into a no-fly honeymoon
Look to go somewhere local on your honeymoon - a romantic eurostar train ride to europe or boat ride to somewhere in the surrounding isles lets you find beautiful places to live that you can revisit again and again.
