Specialist Evening Classes
The National Piping Centre have developed three different evening class courses as part of our curriculum. These courses will begin in September 2021 as online courses, so whereever you are in the world you can sign up!
This replaces the Bellows piping course which used to run at The National Piping Centre Otago Street.
This will run in two hour slots, one from Novice players and one for Intermediate players.
The novice course will be based around the basics of playing a bellows pipe and an introduction to session tunes. The Intermidiate+ course will look more at repertoire, form and tune delivery.
The teacher for this course will be Ailis Sutherland. Ailis has a first class honours degree in Applied Music from University of Highlands and Islands, where she studied at their South Uist campus. She has performaed all over the world as a solo piper and with her group Hecla, as well as appearing on radio and television.
These courses will be weekly on Tuesdays from 28th September 2021 - Tuesday 7th December. The Novice class will be at 6pm and the Intermediate+ course will be at 7pm, with lessons lasting 50mins.
In a brand new course, with a top whistle player, beginners novice and intermediate+ players can learn more about the craft and music of the whistle. The beginner course is for those with no experience, the Novice course is for those who can play basic scales and simple tunes, with the Intermediate+ course for those looking to work on their repertoire and delivery.
This course will be taught by Ross Ainslie. Ross is a renowned instrumentalist having played and recorded with some of the top traditional music groups and as a solo player over the last ten years. He is a BBC Radio 2 Folk Music Award winner and we are delighted to have him teaching this course.
These courses will be weekly on Tuesdays from 28th September 2021 - Tuesday 7th December. The Beginner classes will be at 6pm, the Novice class will be at 7pm and the Intermediate+ course will be at 8pm, with lessons lasting 50mins.
This 10 week course will follow the NPC Piobaireachd Tutor book to introduce non piobaireachd players to this musical artform. To take part in this course you will need a copy of TNPC Piobaireachd Tutor book.
