It was announced yesterday that Alisdair McLaren, the Director of The National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland is leaving his post at the end of March 2020. Alisdair will be returning to his native Australia after more than a decade as director of The National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland.
In his tenure as director he saw the development of the project into two bands, overseeing the first concert the Development Band ever gave, and welcoming many of today's up and coming pipers through the ranks. He has worked with now world pipe band champions, gold medallists and glenfiddich performers, as well as established names in the trad music world, who all came through the ranks of the NYPBoS.
He said "It has been a great honour to lead The NYPBOS for so long, and I have met so many inspirational young people. I have watched many young talents blossom and fulfill their potentials as well as developing new skills. I am looking forward to a new challenge and know that my last concert in charge of the bands will be a great way to round off 11 fantastic years with the project."
