The National Piping Centre Library consists of a number of collections in separate formats, and contains material added since the foundation of The National Piping Centre in 1996. The Library also contains a large amount of current and historical books, archives, tapes and LPs added by the takeover of the former College of Piping in 2018.
The Library contains all the major collections of bagpipe music, dating back into the 19 th century, with the oldest book in the Library being the first edition of Donald MacDonaldâs Ancient Martial Music of Caledonia, published in 1820. Recordings of piping in a wide variety of formats, including 78, cassette tapes, LPs and CD are also held, and work is ongoing to convert music held in older, less accessible formats, to a digital format. It is hoped that some of these will be available via The National Piping Centre website in the near future.
