Bride Blog: 4 Weeks to Go - Feel the Fear!
The excitement is building for Helen Wilkinson, The National Piping Centre's resident bride-to-be, with just four weeks to go until the big day! With that in mind, Helen's focus has turned to finalising arrangements, confirming details with suppliers, and, of course, her Hen weekend! Read on to find out more...
I hadnât considered that it was exactly 4 weeks until the big day when early last week I walked into work to be greeted with a âFour weeks to go â how exciting!â from one of the wedding coordinators. How exciting indeed!
My hen weekend has been planned by my wonderful sister, who I know will be VERY kind to me and not do anything embarrassing (at time of writing, Hen weekend is looming largeâŠ). All I know is that I am a character in a Murder Mystery night, and that we are going to my local parkrun, my one request. The rest, well, Iâll wait and see. But what I am most looking forward to is having all my best girls (and one guy) in a room with hopefully time to actually have a good catch up with them all. The threats of silly costumesâŠ. Not so muchâŠ
But with four weeks to go, my pre-planning and spreadsheets are coming into their own. I have all the measurements for how much bunting I will need (donât judge me) and when I was asked for a list of suppliers and the totals I could send them on as they were all to hand and up to date.
The thing you canât control, however, is other people. We are having a menu with several choices so we need the responses to confirm with the venue asap. However, we are still waiting on a few â I wasnât surprised to discover that these were mostly the pipers on the list who tend to be more laid back when it comes to life in general. So for the love of bagpipes, if you get an invitation through for a wedding, please fill it in and send it back. The bride will love you forever.
Another major fear factor for me, is that this close, people start questioning you. Are you ready? Have you thought of X arrangement? Are you still running to fit into the dress? I find that these questions, even though they are so well meant, cause me to panic a little â am I prepared for the day? Have I thought of everything? How will I look in my dress? But I have decided to take these questions in the spirit that they are meant â so the answers are: Yes, its all coming together nicely, thanks. We did, but it wasnât something we really wanted. And no, Im running because I enjoy running and my dress will look awesome on me as I am, thanks.
My main thought on the fear factor though is donât let anyone burst your bubble. If someone comes up with a good idea at the last minute, think it through â do you really want it? Can you afford it? Is it easy to achieve? If the answer to any of these is no, and you hadnât thought about it anyway, donât worry and donât do it. If someone insists you do it, make it their responsibility. âThanks for your amazing idea, can you make that happen for meâ. The last thing you need is to pile more pressure on yourself by adding in an extra detail most people probably wonât notice anyway.
So apart from a couple of missing RSVPs, itâs all coming together nicely. Iâve had my first dress fitting (itâs as amazing as I remembered), we have emailed all our suppliers for final confirmations so there are just the last few bits to sort out. It is getting really close now, so I am trying to limit the pre-event panic and start getting really excited about the day â Iâve almost crossed all the tâs and dotted the lower case jâs and now I can just enjoy the day!
